4. Our lawful bases for using personal information
UK data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for each use of personal information.
Depending on the circumstances, we rely on the following bases.
Contract
We may process information where this is necessary to provide a service you have requested or to operate your Nazare account in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.
This may include creating your account, maintaining your profile and providing platform functionality you request.
Legitimate interests
We may process information where it is necessary for our legitimate interests or those of another person, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.
Our legitimate interests may include:
- operating and improving Nazare;
- providing useful and relevant professional content and opportunities;
- understanding how Nazare is used;
- maintaining the security and integrity of our services;
- preventing fraud and misuse;
- supporting users and responding to enquiries; and
- administering and developing our business.
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we consider whether the processing is necessary and balance our interests against the potential effect on you.
The ICO requires organisations relying on legitimate interests to identify and explain the interests being pursued and to consider necessity and the individual’s rights and expectations.
Consent
We rely on consent where we ask you to make a genuine choice about a particular use of your information.
This may include certain marketing communications or non-essential cookies and similar technologies.
Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
Legal obligation
We may use personal information where necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation.
The lawful basis we use depends on the specific purpose for which the information is being processed. UK GDPR requires at least one lawful basis for each processing activity.
5. Your Nazare account
When you create a Nazare account, we use the information you provide to create, secure and operate your account and provide the platform’s functionality.
You are responsible for keeping your profile information reasonably accurate and up to date.
Where available, you may update your information through your account.
6. Google, GitHub and LinkedIn
Nazare may allow you to create, access or enhance your account using third-party services such as Google, GitHub and LinkedIn.
When you use one of these services with Nazare, we may receive information that the relevant service makes available in connection with the permissions associated with your account.
The exact information available may vary by provider and connection.
Google, GitHub, LinkedIn and other third-party services process information in accordance with their own privacy policies and terms.

You may upload your CV and other professional information to Nazare.
We may use the information contained within your CV to:
- create and maintain your Nazare profile;
- structure and organise your professional information;
- understand your experience and skills;
- support search and platform functionality; and
- surface relevant professional opportunities or content.
Nazare may use software-assisted or automated tools to help extract, structure, organise, search or analyse information contained in CVs and profiles.
Nazare does not use solely automated processing to make final employment decisions about candidates.
If this changes and we introduce solely automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, we will provide the information and safeguards required by applicable data protection law before using that processing.
8. Sensitive personal information
Nazare does not require you to provide sensitive personal information as part of a standard candidate profile.
Please avoid including information in your CV or profile that is not relevant to your professional experience, such as information concerning your health, ethnicity, religion, political opinions, sexual orientation or other special-category information, unless there is a specific reason for doing so.
If irrelevant sensitive information is provided to us, we may remove, redact or delete it where appropriate.
9. Cookies and similar technologies
The Nazare website and platform may use cookies and similar technologies.
Some technologies are necessary for security, authentication or the operation of the service.
Where required by law, we ask for permission before using non-essential cookies or similar technologies.
You can manage your choices through our cookie consent controls.
More information is available in our Cookie Policy.

Where consent is required, we will ask for it separately.
You can stop receiving marketing communications at any time by:
- using the unsubscribe option in the relevant communication; or
- contacting Nazare.
Withdrawing marketing consent does not affect your ability to maintain or use your Nazare account.
Consent must involve genuine choice and a positive action where it is relied upon as the lawful basis.

We may share personal information with trusted organisations that help us operate the Nazare website, platform and business.
These may include providers of:

- to protect the rights, safety or security of Nazare, our users or others; or
- in connection with a genuine merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
Nazare does not currently provide employers with direct access to candidate profiles through an employer-facing platform.
If the way we share candidate information materially changes in future, we will update this Privacy Notice and provide appropriate information before the new processing begins.
12. Third-party websites and services
Nazare may contain links to third-party websites, services or professional opportunities.
If you follow a link to another organisation’s website or service, that organisation may independently collect and use personal information about you.
This Privacy Notice does not govern the processing carried out independently by those third parties.
You should review their privacy information where appropriate.
13. International transfers
Some organisations that provide services to Nazare may process personal information outside the United Kingdom.
Where this constitutes a restricted international transfer under UK data protection law, we use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism.
Depending on the circumstances, this may include:
- UK adequacy regulations; or
- appropriate contractual safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.
Where required, we also assess whether additional safeguards are appropriate.
14. How long we keep personal information
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including to satisfy legal, regulatory, accounting, security and operational requirements.
In general:
Account, profile and CV information is retained while your Nazare account remains active and for only as long afterwards as reasonably necessary for legitimate legal, security or administrative purposes.
Enquiry and support information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to deal with the enquiry and maintain appropriate business records.
Marketing information and preferences are retained while relevant to our communications with you. If you unsubscribe or object to marketing, we may retain limited information needed to ensure that your preference continues to be respected.
Security and technical logs are retained for only as long as reasonably necessary for security, troubleshooting, fraud prevention and system administration.
Cookie and analytics information is retained in accordance with the periods described in our Cookie Policy and the relevant technology settings.
When personal information is no longer required, we delete or anonymise it.
Backup copies may remain for a limited period until they are overwritten or deleted as part of our normal backup processes.
The UK GDPR requires organisations to tell people the applicable retention period or the criteria used to determine it.
15. Your data protection rights
